Story and Narrative Development

Story serves as the foundation for everything that follows, so getting it right is absolutely crucial.

Without a proper, well-crafted narrative, characters and plot – any work will lack depth, consistency and coherency.

But often as an author or writer, it can be hard to tell what’s wrong with a story when you’re so close to it…and that’s where we can help.

Whether it’s a novel, script, screenplay or a short story – we can help you take your work to the next level.

How we can help

For new works:

Story Workshops

Writing a story can be an intimidating task, but with the right foundation and guidance, it can be incredibly rewarding. First and foremost, before you start writing, it’s important to know what your story is about and the character personalities involved. Set out to create a concept that is interesting and unique – this will help provide clarity for the rest of your creative process.

A story workshop will involve a number of creative sessions where we will provide support, advice and guidance on how best to tell your story. Additionally, we will provide structural documents to walk you through the entire storytelling process – from concept to completion.

For existing works:

Story consultations

We will take an in-depth look at the narrative structure of an existing work to provide feedback and advice on how to optimise it. During the consultation, the we will analyse the story’s characters and plot, as well as its themes and pacing.

We will also help identify any potential problems or inconsistencies in the story, and suggest ways to address them.

Unlike editorial, a story consultation is a much more in-depth analysis and reporting purely focussed on story, characters, core wounds, inner/outer journey, conflict, archytepes and themes.

For completed works:

Proof Reading & editorial

Our typical story editorial process typically involves the following steps:

1) Proofreading: Reading through the text and checks it for typos, grammatical errors and spelling mistakes.

3) Editing: Propose changes to the text, such as cutting unnecessary words or phrases, rewording certain passages  or adding/removing dialogue for clarity.

4) Final checks: After making all changes and additions, we then checks for any lingering errors and typos.

Our aim is to help authors deliver a compelling, clear story that is error-free and easy to read.
